Ganden Samye Valley Trek is a cultural heritage trek in Tibet. The adventurous trek passes through ancient trekking trails in Tibet. Trekking through the amazing alpine landscapes, tranquil high altitude lakes, and high mountain passes.

This trek is tough as you will be crossing two high mountain passes: Shung La, 5250 meters, and Chitu La, 5100 meters. We will be visiting several monasteries, gompas, and dzongs in Tibet. The trek begins at Ganden monastery and ends at Samye monastery in the Samye valley.

This trek is an amazing opportunity to explore the beautiful villages in Tibet. While walking through the villages, you will witness the Tibetan lifestyle and culture. Also, the landscapes are varying with variation in biodiversity.

Ganden Samye Trek in Yarlung valley is best during Autumn (middle of October). During this time, the weather will be stable with a clean atmosphere. If you are trekking to Samye valley in Summer, you will see green mountains and wide green grasslands with colorful wildflowers.

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lhasa (3660m)

Day 04/05: Lhasa Sightseeing Tour

Day 06: Lhasa to Ganden, and trek to Gyana.

Day 07: Trek to Yama Do (4490m, 17km, 5 hours)

Day 08: Yama Do to Tsotup Valley (4980m, 10km, 5/6 hours)

Day 09: Tsotup Chu Valley to Herder’s Camp (5077m, 14km, 6/7 hours)

Day 10: Trek to Wangdo (4000m, 25km, 6 hours)

Day 11: Trek to Samye and drive to Gyantse (3990m)

Day 12: Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m, 90km, 3 hours)

Day 13: Shigatse to Nyalam (3700m, 490km, 7/8 hours)

Day 15: Nyalam to Kathmandu (1300m, 150km, 6/7 hours)

Day 16: Kathmandu Airport

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, we will receive you there and will escort you to a three-star hotel in Kathmandu. Overnight there.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour

On this day, we will explore the natural and cultural sites in Kathmandu. There are several world UNESCO World heritage sites in Kathmandu. Some of them are Basantapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Patan Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Temple, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Changunarayan Temple, and several others.

Enjoy your day in a wonderful city, Kathmandu. Overnight there.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Lhasa (3660m)

Highest Altitude: 3660 meters

Flight Duration: 1 hour

From Tribhuvan International airport in Kathmandu, we will fly in a plane to Lhasa airport. The plane flies in the northward direction towards Mt. Everest. During the one hour flight, you can enjoy your mountain flight over Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world.

After landing in Tibet airport, your Tibetan guide will receive you. S/he will escort you to your hotel in Lhasa. Overnight there.

Day 04/05: Lhasa Sightseeing Tour

The day four and day five are Lhasa sightseeing days. On these days, you will be doing a guided sightseeing tour in some of the amazing places in Lhasa. There are several historical and heritage sites in Lhasa where you can visit.

We will be touring around the Jokhang temple, Norbulingka, Potala Palace, Barkhor Street, Drepung, and Sera monastery. Overnight in Lhasa.

Day 06: Lhasa to Ganden, and trek to Gyana.

We will be visiting the famous Ganden monastery today. From Lhasa, we will drive 50 kilometres north-west to Ganden Monastery. A famous teacher of Buddhism, Tsongkhapa founded the monastery in 1400. The beautiful monastery houses several monks.

After visiting the monastery, we will begin to trek. We will begin to trek towards Gyana. We will stay overnight at a hotel in Gyana.

Day 07: Trek to Yama Do (4490m, 17km, 5 hours)

Highest Altitude: 4490 meters

Trek Distance: 17 kilometres

Trek Duration: 5 hours

On this day, we will trek from Gyana to Yama Do. We will be trekking over the ancient trekking trails enjoying amazing scenic views around. Trekking over the scenic ridge near the Hepu village feels refreshing. We will be trekking through Ani Pagong. The scenic and narrow trek route gradually ascends to Yama Do. Overnight in Yama Do.

Day 08: Yama Do to Tsotup Valley (4980m, 10km, 5/6 hours)

Highest Altitude: 4980 meters

Trek Distance: 10 kilometers
Trek Duration: 5 to 6 hours

On the eighth day, we will be trekking from Yama Do to Tsotup valley. The trail is exciting. We will be walking through a steep gorge to the banks of a stream. From there, we will ascend towards Shung La pass. Crossing the pass is exciting. After enjoying the amazing views from the pinnacle of Shung La, we will descend through fields of the glacial boulder.

Moving towards Tsotup Chup, we will have fun. We will be crossing Tsotup Chup, a large stream that flows through the Tsotup valley. Overnight in Tsotup valley.

Day 09: Tsotup Chu Valley to Herder’s Camp (5077m, 14km, 6/7 hours)

Highest Altitude: 5077 meters

Trek Distance: 14 kilometers
Trek Duration: 6 to 7 hours

We will have a nice morning breakfast before we start to trek. Today, we will follow the trekking trails through Tsotup Chu. We will walk towards Chitu La. Chitu La is a rocky mountain pass. Crossing the pass is exciting and challenging.

We will enjoy the scenic views of surrounding from the pass and will descend down. We will walk to the wide plane lands. These exquisite terrains are camping grounds. We will walk through the herder’s camp. Overnight in a camp.

Day 10: Trek to Wangdo (4000m, 25km, 6 hours)

Highest Altitude: 4000 meters

Trek Distance: 25 kilometers
Trek Duration: 6 hours

Though it’s a long day today, the trek is easier than of previous days. The trekking trails pass through alpine forests and tranquil lakes. Trekking through the varying landscapes, we will walk across the amazing villages like Changtang and Yamalung. These villages are ancient villages. You will see amazing people around while trekking through these villages.

We will walk along a beautiful stream. Finally, after several hours of walking, we will reach Wangdo. Overnight in Wangdo.

Day 11: Trek to Samye and drive to Gyantse (3990m)

Highest Altitude: 3990 meters

Today, we will trek along a beautiful stream towards the Samye valley. At the valley, there is a beautiful monastery. We will make a visit to the Samye monastery. From there, we will drive to Gyantse in a private vehicle. The ride is wonderful. After arriving in Gyantse, we will check into a hotel. Overnight there.

Day 12: Gyantse to Shigatse (3900m, 90km, 3 hours)

Highest Altitude: 3900 meters

TotalDistance: 90 kilometers
Driving Duration: 3 hours

From Gyantse, we will drive to the second biggest town in Tibet, Shigatse. In Shigatse, there is a monastery and a dzong. On the guided sightseeing tour to Shigatse, you can make a visit to Gyantse Dzong and the Kumbum monastery.

After the short tour, we will again drive to another monastery in Shigatse, the Tashilunpo Monastery.

Day 13: Shigatse to Nyalam (3700m, 490km, 7/8 hours)

Highest Altitude: 3700 meters

Total Distance: 490 kilometers
Driving Duration: 7 to 8 hours

After having breakfast in Shigatse, we will drive in a bus towards Nyalam via the Friendship highway. We will drive across the amazing sceneries. The rolling plains of the Tibetan Plateau continue towards Lalung La (5050m). From there, we will head down to the Bhote Koshi gorge to Nyalam. Overnight there.

Day 15: Nyalam to Kathmandu (1300m, 150km, 6/7 hours)

Highest Altitude: 1300 meters

Total Distance: 150 kilometers
Driving Duration: 6 to 7 hours

At Nyalam, we will have our breakfast. From there, we will drive via Kerung to the Nepal-Tibet border. At the border, we will complete all the legal formalities like immigration and customs. From there, we will continue to drive to Kathmandu. Overnight in Kathmandu after a long drive.

Day 16: Kathmandu Airport

Today is your last day in Nepal. We will drive you to Kathmandu airport. From there, we will get on your flight back home.
